How to Reduce Scoliosis Risk in Your Child

Scoliosis is defined as a sideways curvature of the spine that occurs most often during the growth spurt just before puberty.

Here are a few facts about scoliosis:

• Scoliosis affects girls more than boys (7:1 ratio)
• Scoliosis is usually familial (runs in families)
• The condition usually begins between the ages of 8 and 11.

Early Detection Is the Key

If your child isn’t already having regular chiropractic checkups, at a minimum they should be evaluated by the time they’re eight years old. We recommend this for a very powerful reason: scoliosis is most easily treated and corrected the earlier it’s detected!

If, upon examination, your child is showing possible signs of this condition, a simple X-ray will reveal the extent of the problem. We’ll take specific measurements of the abnormal curvature, and then introduce our treatment protocols immediately to obtain the best result.

Our Scoliosis Treatment Trio

Have you had your child checked for scoliosis?

Have you had your child checked for scoliosis? Find out why early detection is key!

Our scoliosis treatment consists of

• Gentle adjustment
• Specific exercise
• Traction

Our traction program consists of a “free arm hang,” in which the patient hangs onto a bar with their legs bent for approximately three minutes on a daily basis. Treatment protocols are usually followed for a 12-month period, after which we evaluate progress through X-ray reassessment.

Scoliosis is preventable and treatable through specific and skillful chiropractic treatment.

Keep in mind that early detection is the key, and will protect your child from the debilitating effects of this condition.
